How long have you been a member of the Piney Woods Substance Abuse Coalition?
I’m not sure, but a long time! At least since 2014.
What do you like most about the coalition?
The positive impact that coalition has on the youth in East Texas; also, the opportunity to network with other agencies and programs that work to better the lives of youth in our area.
Can you tell us about how the coalition fits into the organization you work for?
Our program works with youth and families and our goal is to prevent child abuse and neglect and improve resiliency. We try to keep kids out of trouble and help families get along with each other. The coalition’s goal to reduces substance abuse fits in to our program’s goal to reduce delinquent behavior and keeping kids safe. Our agency’s mission statement is “Helping people achieve dignity, independence, and their dreams.” The PWSAC helps this become possible.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Treat others the way they want to be treated.
What do you like most about East Texas?
The piney woods!
What should other people know about the coalition?
People should know that being involved is a great opportunity to improve the lives of youth, to work with great people, and to make our community a better and safer place.
