Over 25% of students surveyed in East Texas said they used alcohol in the past month. When it comes to using other substances such as marijuana or vaping, the use rates for teens in East Texas is either on par with the rest of the state or slightly higher. Teen substance use has many negative health and social outcomes including a higher risk of alcohol dependence as an adult, engaging in risky behavior, and permanently damaging the brain.
We train community members on how to talk to teens about substance use.
We help raise awareness of the issue and work to get community buy-in
We work to make it more difficult for teens to access alcohol and other harmful substances
We have two coalitions that serve the following counties: Gregg, Upshur, Marion, Harrison, Camp, Cass, Titus, and Morris.
Our coalitions are open to anyone passionate about reducing teen substance use and making an impact
in their community. The more diverse our coalitions, the better!
